David's Green 6 - Pickled Herring 4

A very good defensive game by both teams in the heat today. Victor Williams and John Watts played excellent for Pickle Herring but came up a little short to David’s Green who is now 4-0 because of excellent pitching from Larry Turkel.

Noonan's 10 - Seneca Slashers 2

A game that featured the MSSL’s first TRIPLE PLAY was recorded by NOONAN’S NOONIES vs. the SENECA SLASHERS. In the first inning of NOONAN’S 10-2 victory, which was it’s 1st win of the year, Seneca had the bases loaded with no outs and proceeded to hit into a triple play as catcher Mike O’ Donohue started the milestone play when he pounced on a dribbler in front of the plate, stepped on home , tagged the batter and after that, all hell broke loose with a throw down to 3rd to tag another runner coming from 2nd base (I think, LOL). Pitcher Mitch Garson’s excellent pitching was backed by Noonan’s great defense both in the infield and outfield. Noonan’s offense which produced 16 hits, was led by Paul Rosenheim, Pete Quags (2 RBIs), Mike Flynn (2 RBIs), Mitch Garson (2 RBIs), Alan Feinberg (2 RBIs), and Mike O’Donohue (2 RBIs) with 2 hits apiece.

In a losing effort, the Seneca Slashers played a solid defensive game but managed only 8 hits. Santiago Henriquez had 2 hits and Mark Lair and Grant Elman had a hit and RBI each.

In a hotly contested game, The Yes Group battled back from an early 5-2 deficit to tie the game up at 5-5 in the late innings. The Slashers scored a late run in the bottom of the 8 th to hold to a 6-5 Victory.

The Slashers played excellent team defense all around. They were led by Larry Farina's 4 hits and outstanding defensive play at short. In the top of the ninth Santiago Henriques made a tough catch in the top of the ninth to help secure the win.

Steve Behrman pitched an outstanding game in the loss allowing only 1 run in the last 7 innings. Fred Charleston expertly managed his team and was always a gentleman win or lose.

David's Green 13 - Seneca Slashers 12

The Seneca Slashers fought back from two deficits only to lose in extra innings to David's green. The Slashers were led Larry Farina with 4 hits, Joe Dougherty and Grant Elman with 3 hits each, and George Rothweiler with 2 hits and 4 RBIs.

David's Green power came from Jay Rosenthal who had 2 home runs and a triple. Mike Dunn, Joe Mott and Mitch Einstein each had 3 hits, and Larry Turkel had 2 Hits and pitched well for the win.

Yes Group 9 - Pickled Herring 8

It was a competitive game with two evenly matched teams. The Yes Group staged a last inning comeback with Vinny Labarbera’s single, a walk to Steve Cherches, and a clutch double by Tony D’Angelo which tied the game. A sacrifice fly by Tony Tepedino moved D’Angelo over to third. After two intentional walks and Pickle team moving in closer, Dan Feeney’s hit created a walk off win. Yes Group was led by Labarbera 3/4 and 4 RBIs; D’Angelo 3/4, 2 doubles, and 2 RBIs; Steve Behrman 2/2 and 2 walks; Wayne Merwin 3/3; Dan Feeney 2/4 and 2 RBIs; and John Tepedino 2/4. A total team effort:  Defense, Hitting and Pitching. Michael Tepedino hurt his pulled groin again (get better Mike), so relievers Mark Lippman and Vinny Labarbera finished the game.

The Pickled Herring, aka PH, were ready to go for their season opener against the formidable Yes Group. The PH started off hitting very well and scoring runs leading the game through 5 innings. Unfortunately the hitting became too silent to control the lead giving way to a close walk off loss. Lot Pichinson pitched an excellent game showing consistent control while supporting himself hitting 3 for 3. Bobby Bykovsky displayed his batting skill with a single, double, 2 walks and scoring 3 runs. Stan Chorney hit the first PH “Home Run.” Way to go Stan!

POA 11 - Seneca Slashers 10

In a closely contested game, the Slashers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the 1st but saw that lead melt away in the bottom of the inning as POA scored 4 runs capped by a 2-run moonshot by Pete ""The Hammer"" Joseph that still has not come down. Trailing 10-8 in the bottom of the 8th, Joseph struck again with a solo shot to left center that cut the lead to 10-9. After P Leo Friedlich shut down the Slashers in the top of the 9th, POA loaded the bases and then watched as Matt Ostroff played hero by driving in the winning runs for an 11-10 win. Friedlich pitched and fielded well and got additional offensive support from MI Steve Glassman and RCF Lance Greenberg.

The Slashers, trailing 8-2, forged a comeback scoring 8 runs in the 4th and 5th innings to move ahead briefly 10-8. They were led by the pitching of Grant Elman who added 2 hits and rbi, 1B George Rothweiler with 3 hits and 2 RBI, and Joe Dougherty, who chipped in with a big triple that scored 3 runs. Standout Defensive game for SS Larry Farina who made great play after great play. And kudos to the great effort by Sandy Henriquez who nearly robbed Peter Joseph of a homerun.

David's Red 15 - Noonan's 11

On opening day, many of us reflect back to the first time we put on a little league uniform. That thought brings back a strong emotional attachment to the game we love. How lucky are we that we can still play this great game. David's Landscaping's (Red) victory (15-11) was keyed by their exceptional defense, led by their shortstop Noel Gluck. The defense turned 4 double plays. The bats produced 16 hits and struck for 15 runs. The offense was led by the landscaping firm of Van Wart and Keyhart as they planted hits and 4 RBIs.

Noonan’s were led by Mitch Garson with 3 singles and an RBI.
